Virginia was ecstatic when Nate Savino chose to bypass the 2019 draft and head for campus after a dominant high school senior season. He was the 2019 Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year, played on the 18U USA Baseball team, and was considered among the top 5 pitching prospects in the entire draft class. Now, with another crack at the amateur draft in 2022, Savino has brought his game to another level as the Cavaliers’ Friday starter, with a sub-2 ERA and a ridiculous 10-1 strikeout to walk ratio. His fastball gets up to the mid 90s with heavy sinking action, and he mixes it well with a sharp slider and a change. The 2021 ACC All-Academic honoree looks forward to a strong finish this season as he heads toward the 2022 MLB draft.
