Kelly Oubre Jr. is a basketball player for the Charlotte Hornets franchise in the NBA. A New Orleans native, Oubre later moved to Richmond, Texas after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Oubre played basketball in high school for George Bush High School in Fort Bend, Texas, where he excelled, later committing to play college basketball for the Kansas Jayhawks.
His freshman year was his only year for the Jayhawks, as Oubre quickly proved his value as a player. He averaged 9.3 points per game with 5 rebounds for the Jayhawks before entering the NBA Draft in 2015, where he was selected 15th overall by the Atlanta Hawks, whose draft rights were then traded to the Washington Wizards.
Oubre played with the Wizards from 2015-2018, proving himself as a solid defender and marksman from behind the arc. Oubre was traded to the Phoenix Suns in 2018, where he would play until 2020. With the Suns, Oubre had many impressive performances, including a then career-high 32 point game in an overtime win over the New Orleans Pelicans. He would unfortunately suffer a season ending meniscus tear in 2020 before being traded to the Golden State Warriors in November of that year. Oubre, on February 4th of 2021, scored a career high 40 points in a win over the Dallas Mavericks. Oubre now plays for the Charlotte Hornets after signing with the team in August of 2021.
