Edgardo "Fonzie" Alfonzo is a former MLB player and coach originally from Venezuela. Over his 12 year MLB career, played primarily with the New York Mets, Alfonzo was voted to 1 All-Star team and won a Silver Slugger Award in 1999. He played in the 2000 World Series as a member of the Mets and is enshrined in the New York Mets Hall of Fame. Alfonzo also played for the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Toronto Blue Jays.
After his major league career, he played in the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol in 2008 for the Tigres de Quintana Roo then, played for one season in the Nippon Professional Baseball league with the Yomiuri Giants in 2009. When his playing career ended, Alfonzo became a coach and later, the manager of the Brooklyn Cyclones.
