David Jjoku is a tight end for the Cleveland Browns franchise in the National Football League. Born in Nigeria, Njoku is one of nine children who immigrated to the United States. Attending high school in Cedar Grove, New Jersey, Njoku tallied 76 receptions for 1,794 yards and 19 touchdowns on the football field.
He was a three-star recruit coming out of high school and committed to the University of Miami to play football. A highly touted prospect, David also had offers from schools like Ohio State and Boston College. Njoku redshirted his freshman year in 2014, and then played in every game for the Hurricanes in 2015, hauling in 21 catches for 362 yards and a touchdown. He then improved in 2016, more than doubling his catch total, nearly reaching 700 yards receiving, and catching 8 touchdowns. He decided to enter the NFL Draft in 2017.
Njoku was drafted in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. He signed a fully guaranteed contract of four years, $9.52 million with a $5 million signing bonus. He is currently still with the Browns and is considered one of the best tight ends in football right now.
