Chris Herring is a distinguished NBA journalist and author, currently serving as a senior writer at ESPN. He began his journalism career at The Wall Street Journal, covering the New York Knicks, before moving to FiveThirtyEight and later Sports Illustrated, where he penned in-depth features and hosted the Open Floor podcast. In December 2023, Herring returned to ESPN, bringing his analytical acumen and storytelling prowess to the network's NBA coverage. 

 

Beyond his reporting, Herring is the author of the New York Times bestseller Blood in the Garden: The Flagrant History of the 1990s New York Knicks, a comprehensive look at one of the NBA's most iconic eras. A Chicago native and University of Michigan graduate, he also contributes to journalism education as an adjunct professor at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. Herring's work is celebrated for its depth, clarity, and ability to illuminate the nuances of professional basketball.
