Brian Griese is a former NFL quarterback and Super Bowl champion with the Denver Broncos. He currently serves as the quarterbacks coach for the San Fransisco 49ers. Brian Griese was a Monday Night Football analyst from 2020 to 2022. His ascension to the MNF booth followed 11 seasons as a leading voice on college football, where he called marquee games on ABC and ESPN since 2009. He also called Denver Broncos’ preseason games on TV (2018-19 with Levy) and radio (2010-12).
Since 2016, Griese teamed with Levy, field analyst Todd McShay and, more recently, reporter Molly McGrath to analyze some of the most prominent college football games on ESPN and ABC. He also called a New Year’s Six Bowl on television each year as well as a College Football Playoff game on ESPN Radio most years.
Drafted by the Broncos in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft, Griese’s NFL career spanned 11 years from 1998-2009. He holds the single-season passer rating record in Tampa Bay and previously held the same record in Denver. He earned a Super Bowl ring with Denver when the Broncos won Super Bowl XXXIII. Griese played quarterback for the University of Michigan and helped lead the Wolverines in his senior season to an undefeated record and a share of the national championship.
Outside of football, Griese has created a legacy around his humanitarian efforts. He is the founder and board chair of Judi’s House, a children’s grief support center in Denver, Colorado, named in honor of his mother Judi, who died of breast cancer when he was 12. Since 2002, Judi’s House has helped more than 11,000 youth and caregivers who are grieving a death find connection and healing.
Griese has been recognized for his efforts with Judi’s House, including receiving multiple awards. In consecutive years, Griese received the Big Ten’s Ford-Kinnick Leadership Award (2015) and the conference’s Dungy-Thompson Humanitarian Award (2014), becoming the first to be honored with the Big Ten’s annual alumni awards. Also, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation presented Griese with the 2011 Patterson Award for Excellence in Sports Philanthropy, an award that celebrates and promotes the selfless service of people in sports.
Griese also co-authored the book Undefeated with his father, chronicling their lives through undefeated seasons and Judi’s journey with breast cancer.
