Brandon Sproat is a pitcher who currently plays for the Florida Gators but was recently drafted in the 3rd round of the 2022 MLB Draft by the New York Mets. He decided that he is returning to Florida and passing on the MLB for his junior season in 2023.
In 2022, Brandon made 17 appearances including a team-high 16 starts on the moundPosted a 9-4 record while leading the Gators with 89 2/3 innings pitches. He finished with a 3.41 ERA, .251 batting average against and 82 strikeouts Went 5-0 with a 1.59 ERA and .218 batting average against in his last six starts of the season. He totaled nine quality starts including five in a row to conclude the campaign.
Brandon was a highly decorated hurler coming out of Pace High School (FL), netting Perfect Game Pre-Season All-American honors and spots on the Florida Region All-High School Senior First Team and 2019 All-State Team. With one of the more lively mid-90s fastballs on the circuit, two types of breaking balls, and a changeup, Sproat features true starter stuff that will serve him well as a pro. He’s striking out more than a hitter per inning and has pushed himself into the weekend rotation where he looks to flourish as part of a daunting Gator pitching staff. Sproat oozes projection, having just started to tap into his powerful 6-3, 210-pound frame.
